Chromatic Spirit
Color Study
FOUN 112 | October 29, 2026
Building on explorations of color and emotion, this motion design project combines glitch aesthetics with collage techniques, culminating in an animated composition created in Adobe After Effects.

PROCESS
Color comes first. I build each piece in grayscale, then push it into a mood with Curves and Gradient Map, so value holds the structure and hue carries the feeling. Part A tests this on a still pattern; Part B puts it in motion.
Part A
REPEAT PATTERN
One pattern never changes, so every difference the viewer feels comes from hue, value, chroma, and luminosity alone.

Sheet 1 · Moods: Romantic, Mysterious, Depressed, Excited
Sheet 2 · Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
Part B · Four Moods in Motion
I started from color and let each color suggest a place. Each collage holds one mood, then gets separated into layers so the camera moves through it in parallax, linked by glitch transitions and music.
PASSION
A retro couple dances between a gramophone, a disco ball, and red wine. Wine red, dark brown, and gold keep the energy warm but intimate, like a room lit only by stage lights.

FEMININE
A leaping shopper inside an arcade turned magenta and violet. The pink is pushed to an almost artificial chroma: sweet at first, then too loud, questioning how femininity is packaged and sold.

NATURE
A runner breaks through a chain-link fence toward snowy peaks. Deep green, teal, and olive read as balance and growth, while the torn fence turns nature into escape.

CALM
A still figure at the center, orbited by navy moon phases. An almost monochrome palette with gentle value steps keeps the eye on the bright center and lowers the pulse.

AFTER EFFECTS PROCESS
Each collage was separated into layers so a 3D camera could move through it in parallax. Glitch noise, a radial transition, and dissolves link the scenes, all timed to "Écoute Chérie" by Vendredi sur Mer.
